Brokers
Many visitors to our web site may not be familiar with commercial
nursery plant Brokers and ask why our young plant sales must go
through the Broker system.
A plant Broker performs a very valuable function to both the
nursery receiving the product and the nursery supplying the product.
These functions need to be recognized and appreciated by all parties
involved and they are:
Sales
The Broker finds customers for the producer and product for the
customer. The Broker is making sales all across the country to
people the producer could never hope to visit and provides information
on new and exciting plants and other supplies the grower may not
know about.
Education.
The Broker is a conduit for information. The broker can teach
the customer how to grow the crops the Broker sells. The Broker
also educates the producer on the needs of the industry.
Facilitation.
The Broker finds a way to get the product to the customer as safely,
cheaply, and efficiently as possible. Brokers often have accounts
with preferred carriers and due to the volume shipped they often
can get better freight rates than the individual customer. Brokers
also help with the paperwork involved in every shipment.
Financing.
The Broker has sufficient financial resources to extend terms
to the buyer. The grower needs these terms due to time it takes
to grow the crop. This assures the grower of payment even though
he is shipping to an unknown buyer.
